Here’s why. The wiring installed prior to the 1970s was TRS cable, which has an outer insulation layer made of rubber. Over time this layer will have deteriorated. It then becomes a fire hazard and your insurance may be affected.

At Laser Electrical Auckland Central we leave nothing to chance. When carrying out your rewiring job, our electricians will replace all the old TRS cabling with TPS cabling, which comes with plastic insulation to comply with modern electrical safety standards.

Older homes may also have a switchboard that’s installed on black asbestos board. This is a potential health hazard lurking inside your home, so we recommend replacement. The ideal time to upgrade your switchboard is during the house rewiring process. This can also be a great opportunity to add new fittings or change their locations in the home.
